THE
TELL-TALE HORSE
By Rita Mae Brown
Brown's latest adventure in Virginia 's
hunt country again stars Sister Jane Arnold as Master of
the Foxhounds and entertaining amateur sleuth. The Jefferson
hunt community is caught up in a bone-chilling tale of greed
and murder. Arnold , armed with few clues but lots of horse
sense, sets about solving the crime. The hunt is on and
everyone, two-legged and four-legged alike, band together
to track down the killer. Brown's Tell-Tale Horse is cleverly
named and developed. Her well-researched description of
the fox hunt and its warm camaraderie makes this a fast
moving tale to read in front of a crackling fire. The newest
entry in the Foxhunting series is charming and engrossing.
AN ARSONIST'S GUIDE TO WRITERS' HOMES IN NEW ENGLAND:
A NOVEL
By Brock Clarke
Sam
Pulsifer, the accidental firebug who committed the unspeakable
crime of burning down Emily Dickinson's house is the narrator
and hapless hero of the cheerfully oddball novel. Clarke
calmly tells the tale of Sam's insanely improbable and amusing
behavior fueled by a strange upbringing. After spending
ten years in prison, Pulsifer creates a new life only to
see it go up in flames as the homes of other famous New
England writers are torched. To prove his innocence, he
sets out to uncover the identity of the literary-minded
arsonist. The reality of his discoveries is hilariously
funny and heartbreakingly sad. Clarke makes Sam the fall
guy and tour guide for this big-hearted and unpredictable
novel.
SWEET
REVENGE
By Diane Mott Davidson
Davidson's
14th entry in her culinary suspense series featuring crime-solving
caterer Goldy Schulz opens as the Christmas season approaches.
While Goldy is setting up for a holiday breakfast at the
local public library for staff and volunteers, she thinks
she sees a ghost from her past. Then the body of former
district attorney Wellington is found in the stacks. Forced
to put her recipes on the back burner again, Goldy sets
out to solve the murder and track down the victim's missing
antique map while keeping up with her catering business's
peak season. Davidson's mastery of the murder coupled with
out-of-this-world recipes offers readers a case to sink
their teeth into.
